Rumors concerning the death of YFN Lucci spread quickly across various social media platforms on Wednesday, September 18. This speculation arises during the rapper’s incarceration, as he is serving a 10-year prison sentence for violations of the Street Gang Terrorism and Prevention Act. His representatives have since confirmed that he is alive and in good health.
The initial rumor stemmed from a blog post suggesting that the 33-year-old rapper, whose real name is Rayshawn Bennett, had passed away. Following this, TMZ Hip Hop reported that the rumors were entirely unfounded and likely created to manipulate the emotions of fans who are still grieving the recent loss of rapper Rich Homie Quan, a former labelmate of YFN Lucci.
As the shocking news spread, YFN Lucci’s attorney, Drew Findling, verified the rapper’s status, reinforcing that the rapidly circulating rumor was merely a death hoax.
YFN Lucci is Alive: Death Hoax Debunked
In an exclusive statement to TMZ, attorney Drew Findling—who represented Lucci during his RICO trial in January, which led to his 10-year sentence—assured supporters that the rapper had not died and was indeed alive.
Additionally, fellow rapper Ferrari Fred took to Instagram to reassure fans of Lucci’s wellbeing. In his post caption, he wrote:
“Stop Believing Everything Yall See Myboy Is Safe In Good Hands!! He One Of Them Ones #GOD Got His Hands On.”
Notably, reputable news outlets would have reported on YFN Lucci’s passing had it been true, lending credibility to the confirmation that he is alive.
YFN Lucci seems to be yet another victim of internet death hoaxes. Numerous celebrities, including Justin Bieber, Will Smith, Adam Sandler, Oprah Winfrey, and DJ Khaled, have similarly faced false reports of their deaths in the past.
Understanding YFN Lucci’s Imprisonment: Details Examined
In 2021, Lucci was charged with serious offenses, including murder, assault, and racketeering, as part of a wide-ranging indictment aimed at the alleged Bloods street gang.
Authorities determined that Lucci and other associates engaged in various criminal activities to uphold the gang’s reputation and maintain territorial control. The police also accused him of being the driver in a 2020 drive-by shooting that resulted in a man’s death.
However, through a plea deal, prosecutors dropped 12 out of 13 charges against YFN Lucci, leaving him to plead guilty solely to the Street Gang Terrorism and Prevention Act. The legal team of Drew Findling, Marissa Goldberg, and Gabe Banks stated:
“After three years of pretrial litigation, more than two weeks of jury selection, and three years of incarceration waiting for his jury trial, today, the prosecution finally relented and dismissed the murder and RICO charges against Rayshawn Bennett. As he has maintained for three years now, Mr. Bennett will NOT cooperate in any other case.”
While serving his sentence, the District Attorney of Fulton County has indicated that the state does not oppose an early release for Bennett. YFN Lucci could potentially be released as early as January 2025.
