How To Remotely Connect to Your PC Using an iPhone

iPhones and Windows PCs are very different devices, but the Remote Desktop app makes it pretty easy to bridge that gap. It’s handy if you need to access files, run apps, or do some quick work on your Windows machine while away from it. Honestly, setting it up might seem a bit fiddly, especially if you’re not used to fiddling with Windows remote settings, but it’s doable. Once configured, it’s just about opening the app on your iPhone, adding your PC, and connecting — not quite as complicated as it sounds. Just keep in mind, this only works if your Windows PC is running Pro or Enterprise—home editions won’t cut it.

By the end of this, you’ll be able to control your Windows 10 or 11 machine remotely from your iPhone. It’s not perfect, sometimes connections drop, or you have to tweak network settings, but in general, it’s a lifesaver for quick remote fixes or just checking that file without crawling over to your desk.

How to Remotely Access a PC From an iPhone (Windows 10)

Getting this set up on Windows 10’s a little different from Windows 11, mainly because the menus aren’t identical and some options are tucked away. Remember, Windows 10 has to be Pro or Enterprise—for Home editions, you’re out of luck. The key is enabling Remote Desktop and making sure your network is discoverable and trusted. That means diving into some settings, so be prepared to jump into Settings > System > Remote Desktop. If that doesn’t pop right up, it might be because your Windows version isn’t compatible.

Once you’ve enabled Remote Desktop, write down your PC’s name — it’s found in the same menu. This is what your phone will use to identify the machine. Don’t forget, you should also ensure Network Level Authentication (NLA) is toggled on — it adds that layer of security, even if it sometimes causes headaches if your network isn’t configured just right. When you’re ready, head to the App Store, grab the Microsoft Remote Desktop app, and set up a new connection. Enter your PC name, your login info, and any custom settings you want — mouse swaps, admin mode, etc. Then tap “Save” and try connecting. Fair warning: Sometimes it won’t connect on the first try, but a quick reboot of the PC or toggling network settings can fix that.

On Windows 11, the process is similar but slightly sleeker. The settings panel has gotten a tiny facelift, and it’s a bit more straightforward to find everything. Same rules apply: your PC needs to be Pro or Enterprise. Open Settings > System > Remote Desktop, then switch it on. Remember to check the box that says “Require devices to use Network Level Authentication, ” because of course Windows has to make it harder than necessary. Write down your PC name—this is your magic key for connecting later.

Next, on the iPhone, you download the same Remote Desktop app from the App Store. Launch it, hit the “+” icon, and add your PC. Fill in details like the name and your login info — just like before. You can tweak settings like display resolution, mouse sharing options, or even enable ‘Admin Mode’ if you want a bit more control. When ready, tap the icon above your PC name, and if all goes well, you’ll be prompted to verify the connection. And then, bam, you’re in. There’s always a chance it might stall or require a quick network toggle or reboot, but overall, it’s kinda reliable if you get the initial setup right.
